Black and White Engagement Photos in Grand Rapids

The idea of offering black and white engagement sessions has been on our mind for several years. So we said, "Let's try it with a few couples and see how it goes." Then we met Craig and Annie and knew the time was right, espcially with their October wedding at the Grand Rapids Art Museum.

Three things my wife and I love are coffee, cake and art, all of which can be found in downtown Grand Rapids.

With a wedding scheduled at the Art Museum, we wanted to incorporate their wedding venue into the collection, but first, coffee and cake in at Grand Central Market. It's a great deli, store and restaurant right in the heart of the city. It's been one of our go-to places since moving downtown.

The space they offer is great, as are their treats and Craig and Annie were able to enjoy them both (along with each other).

When thinking about a black and white session, we wanted a location that had stark differences between light and dark. Grand Central Market offered exactly that with its large front windows onto Monroe Center.

Then it was time for the 2 block stroll to the Grand Rapids Art Museum. The museum offers many different textures and options for photography.

First you can get away from the building (across the street) and use it as a larger, blurred backdrop.

Second, you can visit the side garden that includes trees, a waterfall and a unique view of the interior of the museum. (This is where most of the outdoor ceremonies occur at the Art Museum)

Third, the front steps offer the chance for couples to "sit and snuggle".

And fourth, the Monroe Center side of the museum offers a unique look with it's frosted glass windows.
