The Three Ps of Photography: What Really Makes a Photo Work
Most people think photography starts and ends with the final image. The product. A polished headshot, a sharp team photo, a strong banner for your website.
And yes, the product matters. A lot.
But after nearly two decades in this business, I can tell you that the best photos don’t come from good lighting or fancy gear alone. They come from a deeper focus on three key elements I bring to every shoot.
I call them the Three Ps: Product, People, and Process.
Product
Let’s start with the obvious one. The final result. The photo you post to LinkedIn, drop into your proposal deck, or feature on your homepage.
Your visual brand hinges on these images. And they need to do more than just look nice. They need to work. They need to build trust, communicate confidence, and reflect the version of you or your team that actually shows up in the room.
Whether it’s a headshot, a team portrait, or a full brand image library, the product should feel aligned. Current. Approachable. Strategic. That’s always the goal.
People
This is the piece most often overlooked.
Great photos come from real connection. From trust. From someone helping you feel comfortable enough to stop performing and just be yourself.
That’s where I focus most of my energy. Helping people relax. Giving clear direction. Letting them know what’s working while we shoot.
Because when you feel at ease, you stop faking it. You let your real personality show. That’s what people want to see. That’s what builds trust before a word is even spoken.
Over the years, I’ve worked with a lot of folks who really don’t like having their photo taken. That’s actually where I do my best work. I help people feel seen and respected. That’s what makes the difference.
Process
This is the part you don’t see in the final image, but it’s often what people remember most.
The process is everything behind the scenes. The prep guide that answers your questions before you even think to ask. The schedule that keeps the day moving without anyone waiting around. The delivery system that lets you choose your favorites with no confusion or hassle.
My job is to make your life easier. I want you to walk away saying it was smooth, it was fun, and the photos actually feel like you.
When the process is clear and thoughtful, it shows up in the product. You look more relaxed. More confident. More like yourself.
The Bottom Line
Great photography is more than just the final image. It’s about the people in front of the camera. And the process that helps them show up as their best selves.
If that’s what you’re looking for, I’d love to be part of it.
Let’s talk and see what’s possible.
