Ryan + Kelly | Detroit Tigers Wedding at Thousand Oaks
Kelly was referred to us through a co-worker. The co-workers wedding at Grand Rapids Downtown Market was a beautiful fall event. As went through the planning process, we knew these two were special. When a couple contacts you asking to meet at The Mitten Brewery in Grand Rapids because they are Detroit Tigers and beer fans, you know the couple is going to be fun. We met, had a few drinks and got to know one another as friends would. They decided we were a great fit for them and we felt we would be a great fit for their wedding at Thousand Oaks Golf Club.
During that initial meeting, we discovered their wedding day would be focused around Detroit Tigers baseball and beer (just like our initial meeting). Little did we know how many details would relate back to the two themes.
Upon arrival on the wedding day, we found guests name tags cut into the shape of baseball jerseys. Their "guest book" wasn't a book at all, but a wood piece created by Ryan in the shape of home plate (with their last name and wedding date). Their "thank you" gift to guests were baseball shaped chocolates with reference to their day being a "Grand Slam". Ryan had a Tigers jersey made not only for his wife, but also for Kelly's nephew who played the role of ring bearer.
Thousand Oaks Golf Club was the perfect choice for the wedding day. Following a "first look" and portraits with their bridal party, their ceremony, officiated by a friend, was held inside part of the Grand Oaks room. As they exited their wedding ceremony, both were fist pumping all the way!
Guests then moved to the outside deck for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, while we took care of family portraits, a few more wedding party photos (now that everyone was relaxed) and a few of Ryan and Kelly around the Thousand Oaks property.
Upon entering their wedding reception, Ryan let their guests know that they would be streaming the Kentucky Derby live and that each table had the name of a horse under their centerpiece. The winner (and order of finishers) of the Kentucky Derby would determine who was dismissed for dinner first. We felt this touch was an exciting way of dismissing guests for dinner. Ryan and Kelly even threw in a stack of "Derby Hats" to help folks have even more fun with their "derby theme".
Following dinner and toasts, dancing began and included a surprise dance from Kelly and her father, who broke it down on the floor together. Throughout the evening the Derby Hats made their way onto almost everyone in attendance and the dance floor was full thanks to the great music playlist put together by their DJ team.
