We help our clients tell their stories. We typically have help on projects and the Innovation Center Grand Opening for Hutchinson was a great example of collaboration with other great professionals. We were referred to Hutchinson by Grand Rapids public relations firm Clark Communications who was hired to help plan and organize the Grand Opening which had global significance for Hutchinson.
The opening of the 616 Fab House is only the second innovation center in the world for Hutchinson. It was modeled after the 507 Fab House in Montargis, France, near the company's world headquarters.
The opening of the facility brought together Hutchinson Global President & CEO Jacques Maigne, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, Hutchinson's Global Board of Directors, Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalyn Bliss, The Right Place, Inc. President & CEO Birgit Klohs and 170+ guests from around the world.
The transformation of Hutchinson's facility in Grand Rapids is a story that needs to be told.
Hutchinson North America President & CEO Cedric Duclos was brought to the Grand Rapids facility as the economy was in a decline, automotive manufacturing was moving overseas and for a moment, shutting the plant down was considered.
However, over the past 7 years, Cedric has been able to revolutionize the automotive plant. His team has increased production year over year and the North American division of Hutchinson has now added over 400 new jobs since 2008. In addition, their revenue has grown to over $300+ million in anti-vibration parts for the automotive and aerospace industries.
The new facility was a complete remodel and refab of some of the original manufacturing space and totals 13,400 square feet of an interactive product showroom, fabrication lab & 3D printer center, telepresence center (instant, immersive connection to Hutchinson’s other locations) and a training & conference center.
Following the day of guest, media and staff events, the Global Board of Directors and Global CEOs moved to Frederik Meijer Gardens where they were given a private tour of the newly installed The Richard & Helen DeVos Japanese Garden and spent the rest of the evening learning from Joseph Becherer, Chief Curator at Frederik Meijer Gardens.
The photos on the innovation centers walls tell the story of a company that has spanned 160 years and now spans across the globe supplying and supporting the manufacturing of many industries from automotive to aerospace. Now included on those walls are images from the Grand Rapids manufacturing facility.
