The MSU College of Human Medicine Gran Fondo enters its 3rd year this year in Grand Rapids. The event will be taking place on June 27 and features rides of several different distances and difficulties for the West Michigan riding community. The MSU Gran Fondo (Italian for "Big Ride) is a fun, non-competitive cycling event to benefit skin cancer awareness, prevention and research. Every dollar raised by riders goes directly to support MSU skin cancer awareness, prevention and research. This years program featured a VIP Ride for members of the West Michigan community with special guest Bob Roll. Bob is a former professional cyclist, author, and television sports commentator. He is a former teammate of Greg Lemond (3 time Tour de France winner) and has covered professional cycling as a commentator for NBC Sports since his retirement.
Bob came to Grand Rapids to support the 2015 MSU Gran Fondo and tell stories of his experience as both a professional racer and commentator in the world of cycling. The event took him, along with 40+ other riders, around West Michigan on a relaxed 25 mile ride. As a Grand Rapids event photographer, we photographed the coming together of all the riders, the facilitated a group photo before the ride which was then printed while riders were out on the course and given to attendees in a wonderful frame as a 'thank you' gift for their participation. This is a wonderful touch by the MSU College of Human Medicine to create a keepsake for those involved in this event.
The event was held at the ROC at Rockford Construction's headquarters in Grand Rapids. The space is available to the public for rent and would be a wonderful spot for a smaller wedding or an event in the downtown area.
