Palm Beach + Atlanta Adventure | Swimming With Gentle Giants at Georgia Aquarium

Thursday, February 14th, 2013

The second half of our travel adventure took us to Palm Beach and Atlanta to spend time with our great friends Bryan and Hannah, along with checking off another bucket list item for Rebecca in Atlanta.

We scheduled a 23 hour layover in our flight schedule to stop in Ft. Lauderdale to spend time with our college friend Bryan and his wife Hannah who were married in October 2012. One of the bad parts of being photographers is sometimes when your friends schedule their weddings, we are already booked for the date. Regardless though, it was great to see them settled into their home in West Palm Beach, share a few great meals together and talk about what’s happening in each other’s lives.

They took us on a short tour of downtown Palm Beach which included stops at the beach and Worth Ave, Palm Beach’s version of Rodeo Drive. They love West Palm because of it’s family friendly nature and I can see them staying in the area a long time. We truly appreciate them as friends and as a couple.

Following our short stint in Palm Beach, it was off to Atlanta where we checked off another of Rebecca’s bucket list items, swimming with sharks. The Georgia Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the world and the only place that has 4 whale sharks in captivity. We were able to experience the aquarium, get a behind the scenes tour and then suit up for an hour dive in a tank the size of two football fields.

The experience was one that we will never forget and I am so thankful that my wife has a crazy obsession with sharks, otherwise I would have never gotten in the water. But since she never had any desire to jump out of a plane (and I did), I figured I owed her one for jumping out of a perfectly good airplane at 10,000 feet.

Following our swim with the Gentle Giants we took some time to explore the Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta and thanks to a local Atlanta police officer, we had the best meal of our lives at Pitty Pat’s Porch. Named after Scarlett’s “Aunt Pitty Pat” from Gone With The Wind, this place serves “soul food”. Sweet potato and raisin muffins, homemade corn bread and slow roasted ribs that no Yankee will ever duplicate were all on the menu at Pitty Pat’s. It’s a must try for anyone stopping in Atlanta!

Costa Rica Adventure | Items Checked Off The Bucket List

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

Taking 10 days away from the office was exactly what we needed. We were blessed to be able to put together what really turned out to be three separate trips to all into one.

First we were able to head to the La Fortuna & Arenal area of Costa Rica through an incentive trip we earned. We knew it would be a great trip, but as you will see below, everything from the hotel, to activities blew us away! Everything was first class and we had more fun on the trip than we ever imagined possible!

We made our journey in a trusty 2-door, 5-speed manual Suzuki Jimny. After a 3 hour trek through the mountains that took us only 100 kilometers, we arrived at our hotel, the Arenal Springs Resort & Spa. They are a 4 Star resort and it showed. From great food, amazing facilities, natural hot springs on the property & a world class spa, anything we needed at the resort was taken care of! Even the view was amazing!

During our time in Arenal, we hiked through Arenal Volcano National Park on aged lava flows (one item to check off our bucket list), hiked to a secluded waterfall to go swimming, zip lined through the rain forest canopy and went canyoneering (waterfall rappelling). We were able to visit a wildlife rescue center, Proyecto Asis, one of the few in the entire country. In addition we explored Lake Arenal, a 33 mile long reservoir that was created after a hydroelectric dam was built in the area.

Below we have put together a compelation video of our time in Costa Rica and below the video, you will see some of our favorite photos from the trip!

Climie Christmas 2012 | Chicago, Presents + Ice Skating

Wednesday, January 9th, 2013

My wife’s favorite time of the year is definitely Christmas. The tree is up, decorations around the house, baking cookies, finding just the right present for the people in our lives. She loves it all.

One of the best times during the Christmas season is our TRIP for our nieces and nephews. Instead of just getting them a random gift, we have begun the tradition of giving them an “EXPERIENCE GIFT” where we take them to do something unique and exciting during their Christmas break.

Last year we took the two oldest nephews to Chicago and had a great time. This year, we have yet to do their experience which will be a behind the scenes tour at the Michigan Capitol and a day of skiing with Uncle Russell and Aunt Becky. Hopefully the snow sticks around so we can go skiing.

With our two oldest nieces, Rylie and Tessa, and the third oldest nephew, Jack, we took them to Chicago on an adventure. The day began with a train ride into Millennium Station, right into the heart of downtown Chicago. We visited the “Cloud Gate” (aka Chicago Bean), took the ladies to the American Girl Doll Store, took Jack to the Lego Store and finished up the shopping spree with a stop at the Hershey’s Chocolate Factory on the Michigan Mile.

We then took Chicago’s City Bus up to Lincoln Park Zoo to see all the animals and experience “ZooLights“. The Zoo is lit up throughout by hundreds of thousands of lights and decorations. It is a must see for anyone in the Chicago area during the Christmas season.

Christmas Eve is spent with Rebecca’s family, along with the immediate family. It’s a great time to see the kiddos smile and watch Grandpa in his famous role as “Santa Claus”.

Christmas day itself is an event with Russell’s family. First it’s brunch with his mom, dad, two brothers and sister in law. Then it’s gifts galore from his parents. Then we turn our attention to a movie as a family. This year we went and saw “The Hobbit” in 3D, which was intense to say the least! Finally we finish off the night with a tribute to the “Christmas Story” and Chinese Christmas Dinner.

Following Christmas itself, we had the blessing of having our friend Carrie, along with her two kids, Landon and Elyse, visit us from the Tampa area. Carrie and my wife have been friends for a little while now, but we were excited for them to return the to Michigan winter and have a few adventures with us (like skating at Rosa Parks Circle).
