Newborn and Baby Photography...
Tiberius Images was recently hired to photograph a young 4 week old Tucker Krause at his new home north of Grand Rapids. Since life is a series of moments, the goal should be capture as many as possible with your camera. The weeks and months that follow a babies birth are a series of firsts for both you and your newborn baby – first night at home, first smile, etc. Newborn babies are the most amazing and beautiful gifts you will ever receive…so why are they so hard to photograph?!!! Don’t despair, you are not alone. If you are looking for more ideas, visit Grand Rapids photographer Tiberius Images complete gallery for Tucker.
Here are some tips for capturing those first few months of life.

Lights…
Lighting can be tricky in any photograph. Every source of light has its own qualities; there are hard and soft aspects to each light source, but the most natural fit for infant photography is a soft glow. The best way to achieve that quality of light is definitely by utilizing natural light, such as an light through a window. A great trick that I’ve used is to lay a soft blanket out on a bed or living room floor that has a lot of bright, indirect light. Just remember, with babies the number of photos you take typically depends on how long you can keep them happy, so plan accordingly.
Camera…
Now it’s time to get into position for that perfect memory. The most straight forward way is to get straight overhead and let the blanket provide an uncluttered, simple background. But be mindful of the clothing to background combinations. Combos such as white on white can be a wonderful effect, but can create a floating head effect. A second position is to get right down on ground level. In the end though, find the angle you like best and WAIT! Be ready because when that moment comes, it could be the shot you show friends and relatives for years to come!
Action!
Just like the first rule of real estate is location, location, location, the first rule of baby photography is PATIENCE, PATIENCE, PATIENCE! Everything will pull their attention, because everything is brand new to them. Take a few test shots to look at your background, lighting, and composition. That way, when the moment comes, you will be ready to capture the perfect shot. Keep in mind that you only need one. With babies, sometimes less is more – remember 3 great images is better that 40 mediocre ones.
